Winepacs/Squattle - Waste No More - Our Environment
Climate Change has recently placed a responsibility upon industry to reduce carbon emissions, water usage and product waste.
Founder Scott Brown initiated the development of this revolutionary air free packaging system to address the future needs of packaging and the environment.
Broadly recognised internationally, the squattle has been the focus of international university studies, National industry case studies and International speaking roles. Squattle has won large industry environmental awards throughout the packages early development phases. Recognised in the top 50 global packaging ideas of the last 100 years, Squattle is ripe for commercialisation with environmentally responsible wine companies.
It is also studied in the National School Science Programme. The environmental benefits over existing packages for wine is substantial.
Carbon Emissions – The wine industry must reduce their environmental footprint. International pressures are seeing the rapid rise of PET bottles as a preferred environmental packaging option. The largest carbon emitter in the wine industry is the glass bottle. Carbon cost of glass is greater in manufacture and transportation, than PET bottles. It is inevitable that PET will become the method to package for the environment.
Water usage – The term Virtual Water refers to the amount of water used to make the product. Up to 1000 Litres of Virtual Water is required to bring 1 Litre of wine onto the market. Many wines are wasted , and subsequently for each glass that has not been consumed , amounts for up to 250 Litres of water. The winepacs air free system retains the quality and freshness for extended periods, greatly reducing the occurrence of wasted wine. Waste No More!
Longer Shelf Life than the wine cask, ensuring higher quality wines for longer. In excess of 12 months shelf life as opposed to the 6 to 9 month shelf life of the wine cask. Less wastage and longer retail storage.
Wine casks are also made up of a number of components, high energy use aluminium and plastic bladder and cardboard for outer package.
Recycling ability -The winepacs system can be recycled – the wine cask cannot.
The 4th R - The winepacs air free system retains the quality and freshness for extended periods, greatly reducing the occurrence of wasted wine. Winepacs Air Free Systems - Reduce, Retain, Reuse and Recycle. The 4th R.
Individuals are aware of the great need to reduce their environmental footprint and are opting for green purchases due to climate change. Each green purchase is insurance for the next generation.
Winepacs – best practice.
Case Studies
The squattle has been prestigiously selected for a number of case studies by large institutions such as the Australian Logistics Council, The Design Institute of Australia, the Packaging Council of Australia and is studied in the Australian Primary Schools Science Programme Questacom.
It is also part of the empirical study at the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, The University of Sydney Facualty of Economics and Business, European Universities and was presented by invitation in a major USA university.
The US owned publishing giant Reed Elsevier's Packaging magazine recognised the squattle as number 42 of the top 100 global packaging innovations in history. The only one of the top 100 not yet on the market, at proof of concept phase. On market we will be aiming higher.
